Christian Petracca injury update
Melbourne star Christian Petracca suffered a heavy hit to his ribs late in the first term and was subbed.
The star midfielder equalled the grand-final record for most disposals with 39 and kicked two goals before he was forced from the field.
Petracca was hospitalised Monday after suffering the injury and is expected to miss the Demons' preliminary final against Geelong.
"They couldn't do it with Christian Petracca, now they've got to do it without Christian Petracca," Demons coach Simon Goodwin said.
"He's a massive part of our team and he's a great player. We're going to miss him, but we've got to find a way to win without him."
The Demons will be hoping to avoid a similar fate to last year, when they lost to the Western Bulldogs in the preliminary final after losing Petracca to injury in the qualifying final.
