Canada Adds New Dimension to USA Rivalry

Dillon Brooks and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Lead Canada to First-Ever FIBA World Cup Medal

In a thrilling Game for the 3rd Place, Canada defeated the United States 98-95 to claim the bronze medal at the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup. Dillon Brooks led the way for Canada with 39 points, while Shai Gilgeous-Alexander added 31 points and 12 assists.

This is Canada's first-ever medal at a FIBA World Cup, and it adds a new dimension to the rivalry between the two North American powerhouses. The United States had won the last two World Cups and had not lost to Canada in a major tournament since 2019. But Canada showed their mettle in this tournament, beating the United States in the preliminary round and again in the bronze medal game.

Brooks was named the Most Valuable Player of the Game after his outstanding performance. He hit 8-of-15 shots from the field, including 5-of-10 from three-point range. Gilgeous-Alexander was also impressive, finishing with a stat line that included 12-of-23 shooting from the field and 8-of-10 from the free throw line.

Canada's victory is a testament to the hard work and dedication of their players and coaches. They have shown that they can compete with the best teams in the world, and they are poised to make even more noise on the international stage in the years to come.
